LYNDA CARTER

As a kid, I was in love with Lynda Carter. Not the, "Gosh, I really admire her super powers" kind of way, but the "I wonder if she'll wear an apron over that costume when she's cooking me dinner" kind of way. I thought she was he most beautiful woman in the world. She was my first bona fide girl crush.

Along with thousands of other little girls, I was misled to think that - in order to be a superhero - one must possess a 16-inch waist. Damn you, Lynda Carter! Thankfully, once the corset came off, Lynda's waistline ricocheted back into the perfectly respectable 25" mid-section of a former Miss World contestant.

I got a Wonder Woman costume for Halloween in 1978 and proceeded to wear it on my birthday in November, Christmas morning at my grandparents' house, and my mom's fancy birthday dinner in February. I couldn't get enough. Of course, I didn't look *quite* the same in the outfit, but that's probably just because I was blonde.

I am deliberately NOT including photos of Ms. Carter in her Wonder Woman costume in this post. I am instead focusing on what I like to call her "disco princess," "uptight but sexy administrative assistant" and "wide-eyed lass plucked out of her rural hometown" looks. I appreciate that she embraced more than one look and wasn't afraid to dress down once in a while.
